Set in the exclusive seafront of Nantucket Island, this is a murder mystery involving a very rich family and a wedding.
I wasn't very familiar with Nantucket so I have had to look it up on the map and I have found that it sits just to the north of New York City and to the right of Rhode Island. It's a summer destination for those who can afford it and the picture perfect island features cedar clad homes and cobbled streets. So you get the picture.
Benje, who is the eldest son of the fabulously wealthy Winbury family is set to marry at his family home on Nantucket Island, and his mother has planned every detail down to the last canape and champagne cocktail. Everything is in place the night before the wedding but when the bride, Celeste, wakes up in the morning she discovers her maid of honour has drowned overnight, and what should have been the happiest day of her life turns into the start of a murder enquiry.
Some of the guests have already arrived at the house, so there is a bit of an Agatha Christy feel to the plot as the Chief of Police interviews everyone to discover if it was just and accident or murder, and if it's murder, who did it? As the questioning progresses, it seems that everyone has some sort of secret that they were trying to hide and any one of the family of guests could have had a motive to murder the maid of honour.
I can see why Netflix has picked this up for a series as the screen will be filled with beautiful scenery with perfect houses, and the format of police interviews divides the plot up nicely into the different characters and their backgrounds. It's an easy read and I think the moral of the story is that no matter how much you have in life, there is always the temptation to have something you shouldn't.
